US envoy says Iran plans to allow IAEA access to nuclear facilities
US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Peacekeeping Missions, Steve Witkoff, has told members of Congress that Iran plans to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to access its nuclear facilities.
Witkoff reportedly made the remarks during a closed-door briefing with US lawmakers on June 18, where media were not present, the Associated Press reports.
According to AP sources, Witkoff said that Iran will invite the UN agency responsible for nuclear oversight to inspect its nuclear facilities and begin work on identifying and disclosing the locations of Tehran’s enriched material”
He also clarified that a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran does not itself include provisions granting International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) personnel access to Iranian facilities. However, he added that such a step is outlined in a letter prepared by Iran and addressed to the IAEA.
