Ukraine’s intelligence service reveals scale of Russia’s Geran drone arsenal

Russia has accumulated around 6,200 Geran strike drones of various modifications as of August 2026, Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) announced.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the large stockpile of drones is linked to Russia’s limited production capabilities, which prevent it from carrying out large-scale combined strikes against Ukraine on a continuous basis.

For this reason, Russia is forced to accumulate such a large number of strike drones, GUR said.

The agency noted that Russia launched a record number of drones on the night of May 13–14, with around 1,600 UAVs of various types used in the attack. In addition, 2026 has seen new monthly records for the number of drones used, reaching 6,000–6,500 units.

Alongside strike drones, Russian forces are actively using guided aerial bombs. According to GUR, Russia used a record 5,717 aerial bombs in January 2026 alone.
