US Envoy: Trump’s “playing with fire” remark linked to personal ties with Putin
US President Donald Trump’s recent warning that Russia is “playing with fire” reflects his personal rapport with Russian President Vladimir Putin rather than a broader diplomatic stance, according to US Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.
Speaking on May 27, during an interview with Fox News, Kellogg clarified that Trump’s remarks were not aimed at Moscow’s policies but stemmed from his own relationship with the Russian leader, Caliber.Az reports.
“The fire he's talking about is his personal relationship with Putin. Because President Trump really values personal relationships,” Kellogg stated.
He added that cooperation with Trump could prove advantageous, hinting at the former president’s emphasis on one-on-one diplomacy during his time in office.
Trump’s comments, made the same day, were left open to interpretation. He asserted that Russia was “playing with fire” but declined to elaborate further.
The president also claimed that “a lot of bad things would have already happened to Russia” if it weren’t for his actions.
