US expects International Stabilization Force to deploy in Gaza in early 2026
The United States expects the International Stabilization Force (ISF) to be deployed in the Gaza Strip in early 2026, a U.S. official told Al Jazeera.
The official said US anticipates the first phase of ISF deployment in the enclave will involve one or two countries, noting that the peacekeepers will not operate in areas of Gaza controlled by Hamas.
The source added that the matter of U.S. participation in mission command is still under discussion.
“We are negotiating with several countries, including Arab states, regarding their contribution to the International Stabilization Force,” the official said, clarifying that consultations cover the contingent’s composition, command structure, deployment process, rules of engagement, and logistics.
Regarding progress on the second phase of implementing President Donald Trump’s Gaza conflict resolution plan, the official said discussions are taking place behind closed doors and are advancing despite existing difficulties. Washington is also participating in consultations on forming a Gaza police force composed of local residents.
