US expects Iran reply on nuclear proposal "today", Rubio says
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday (May 8) that Washington expected to receive Iran’s response to a U.S. proposal later in the day, as diplomatic efforts continue amid wider regional tensions involving Lebanon and Israel, Iran International reports.
“We should get Iran response today,” Rubio told reporters during a visit to Italy.
Rubio said the United States had not yet received Tehran’s reply, adding: “I hope it’s a serious offer” and “hope that it puts us in a process of serious negotiation.”
Commenting on regional security dynamics, Rubio drew a distinction over talks involving armed groups in Lebanon, saying: “We will not negotiate with Hezbollah. We are focused on the Lebanese government,” referring to Hezbollah.
