US: Explosion triggers blaze at Chevron refinery in California VIDEO
On October 2, a large fire broke out late at Chevron’s oil refinery in El Segundo, Los Angeles County, after an explosion lit up the night sky.
The blast occurred at 21:55 local time, producing a towering orange blaze visible across much of the Los Angeles area, Caliber.Az reports, citing US media.
Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the incident or whether there were any casualties.
“We’re trying to figure out what type of fire it is,” said Julio Martinez, a spokesman for the El Segundo Police Department.
Chevron has not yet issued a statement in response to the incident.
The refinery in El Segundo, which first opened in 1911, is California’s second-largest, accounting for around 16% of the state’s daily refining capacity.
