US House again votes to push Trump to withdraw from Iran war

08 August 2026 15:17

The US House of Representatives has passed a war powers resolution for a second time calling on President Donald Trump to withdraw US forces from the conflict with Iran, amid renewed fighting, rising oil prices and the deaths of four American service members.

The measure, introduced by Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal, passed by a vote of 214-208, largely along party lines. Four Republicans — Tom Barrett of Michigan, Warren Davidson of Ohio, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania — joined all Democrats present in supporting the resolution, The Guardian reports.

US Senator John Hickenlooper separately announced that lawmakers had introduced a resolution seeking to end the conflict.

“We just introduced a resolution to put a stop to President Trump’s illegal war with Iran,” Hickenlooper wrote on X.

He cited the loss of American lives, rising gas and fertiliser prices, and depleted US military stockpiles as reasons for ending the conflict.

“End this war. NOW,” Hickenlooper said.

A similar war powers resolution passed by the House in June was subsequently approved by the Senate, marking a significant bipartisan challenge to Trump’s decision to join Israel in attacking Iran in February.

The earlier resolution came amid sustained public opposition to the conflict, with opinion polls showing that the war has remained unpopular among Americans.
