US imposes sanctions on Iran’s shadow fleet

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has signed two executive orders imposing sanctions on Iran, targeting the so-called shadow fleet of the Islamic Republic.

The information was posted on the US Department of the Treasury’s website, Caliber.Az reports.

This morning, the Secretary signed two more orders concerning Iran sanctions, emphasising that the US is applying maximum pressure on Iran and attempting to track down its so-called shadow fleet. No further details were provided. 

On June 6, 2025, the US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on 10 individuals and 27 entities, including companies based in Iran, China, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

These sanctions target a network involved in laundering billions of dollars through Iran's "shadow banking" system, facilitating the regime's access to proceeds from oil and petrochemical sales.

The funds are allegedly used to support Iran's nuclear and missile programs and to finance proxy groups engaged in regional destabilisation.
