US imposes sanctions on tankers, companies linked to Iranian oil exports
The United States Department of the Treasury has announced sanctions against several legal entities, eight tankers, and one individual linked to oil shipments on behalf of Iran, according to an official statement on the department’s website.
"The Treasury Department will continue to increase pressure on Iranian oil sales to deprive the Iranian regime and its military of the financial resources it needs to threaten U.S. allies and partners in the Middle East," Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated. "We will not allow the Iranian government to increase its oil revenue for the purpose of reconstituting its armed forces and military capabilities."
The 16 sanctioned companies include entities registered in China, Qatar, India, the UAE, and the Marshall Islands. The only individual listed is an Indian national.
The eight sanctioned tankers sail under the flags of the Marshall Islands, Cameroon, the Comoros, Panama, Palau, and San Marino.
