US intends to use diplomacy to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons

National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby said the Biden administration remained committed to seeing that Iran never has nuclear weapons capabilities.

He also said that negotiations on restoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) are  “pretty well complete… and it’s on the table and the onus is now on Iran,” Kommersant reported.

Kirby added that Biden still believed diplomacy would be the best way forward to ensuring Iran did not get a nuclear weapon.

But the US would continue to make sure it had the ability to defend itself and its allies “against the range of other Iranian threatening behavior,” Kirby said.
