US Jewish groups plan protest against New York Times over Gaza war column
US Jewish groups have announced plans to stage a protest against The New York Times on Thursday May 14, following the publication of a column that accused Israeli forces of widespread rape of Palestinian detainees.
The demonstration is being organised by activist groups including EndJewHatred, Stop Antizionism, Hineni and the Movement Against Antizionism, The Times of Israel reports.
The groups argue that the article published earlier this week contained what they describe as defamatory allegations against Israel. Israeli authorities have also criticised the report, calling it libellous and disputing its sourcing, including claims that some sources have alleged links to Hamas or have expressed support for the group.
The latter three organisations were established after the Gaza war and amid what they describe as a rise in antisemitic incidents in the United States. The planned rally marks one of their first coordinated public demonstrations.
Organisers said: “Join us to rally and let NYT know they must stop the antizionist libels. Enough is enough!”
