US airstrikes hit Houthi positions in Yemen's Marib, over 35 targets struck PHOTO

16 April 2025 14:24

The US military launched a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi positions in Yemen, specifically in the Majzar area of Marib governorate, with over 35 airstrikes hitting key sites including Houthi barracks and military positions.

Significant damage was reported, though the full extent of casualties and material loss is still under investigation, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

The Houthis have held control of the Majzar region since February 2020, after intense fighting with Yemen's internationally recognised government forces.

The area remains of high strategic value to the Houthis, as it serves as a vital corridor for troop movement and the transfer of military equipment between the capital, Sanaa, and Marib, a region of great military and political significance.

In the years since the Houthis took control, the group has fortified the region with advanced weaponry and defensive measures.

According to sources, they have constructed an extensive network of tunnels, bunkers, and fortifications designed to store and deploy ballistic missiles, drones, and air defence systems.

They have also established stationary and mobile missile launchers in mountainous and elevated areas, as well as radar stations, surveillance technologies, and communication infrastructure.

In recent weeks, the Houthis have moved additional heavy weaponry, including tanks and artillery, to the frontlines.

This maneuver is seen as part of their broader strategy to bolster military readiness for future conflicts. As part of this ongoing buildup, the Houthis are pushing toward Marib, the seat of Yemen’s legitimate government and a stronghold for anti-Houthi forces, while also seeking to expand into the eastern regions, home to Yemen's rich oil and gas reserves.
