US launches nine airstrikes on Yemeni capital, injures civilian and damages homes

24 April 2025 10:11

The United States intensified its aerial campaign in Yemen on the early morning of April 24, launching nine airstrikes across multiple areas in and around the capital, Sana’a.

According to local sources, the strikes left at least one civilian lightly injured and caused significant damage to several homes in residential neighbourhoods, Caliber.Az reports, citing Arabic media.

Six of the airstrikes targeted the Barash area, east of Jabal Nuqm in Sana’a province, while three others struck Jabal Nuqm itself, located in the eastern part of the capital. Security sources confirmed that the wall of a house in the Beir Zaid neighbourhood of Al-Jiraf, in northern Sana’a, was directly hit, injuring one civilian and damaging nearby homes.

The latest wave of attacks marks a continuing escalation in the US-led air campaign in Yemen. Civilian areas have been repeatedly targeted, resulting in hundreds of casualties and widespread destruction, further deepening the country’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.

In a parallel development, the Israeli military carried out nine airstrikes in Yemen’s Sa’adah Province, while US forces launched ten additional strikes on the same day. Six of those targeted the Sahlin area in the Al-Salem district, and three others hit areas north of Sa’adah City.

The intensifying bombardments have drawn growing condemnation from humanitarian organisations and regional observers, who warn of the devastating impact on Yemen’s already vulnerable civilian population and infrastructure.

Washington has framed its military campaign as a deterrent effort to prevent Yemeni forces from attacking Israel-linked vessels in the Red Sea. However, Yemen has remained defiant, vowing to continue its naval operations until Israel ceases its military actions in Gaza.

In response to what it calls genocide in Gaza and foreign aggression, Yemen has enforced a strategic maritime blockade aimed at disrupting arms shipments and pressuring the international community to address the humanitarian disaster in the region.
