US launches over 20 airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen

12 April 2025 12:32

The United States conducted a series of 29 airstrikes on Houthi targets over a two-hour period as part of its ongoing air campaign in Yemen.

The strikes, carried out on the night of April 11, targeted multiple locations across Hodeidah, Marib, and Sana'a, Caliber.Az reports via Arab media.

Sources from Al Arabiya reported that US aircraft targeted Houthi positions in these key regions, focusing on both military infrastructure and communication networks. The primary target of the airstrikes was a Houthi communication station in the Barea area of Hodeidah.

In addition to the communications facility, US planes carried out 11 strikes on Houthi positions in the Al-Abdiyah and Majzar districts of Marib, areas which have seen heavy conflict between Houthi forces and local resistance groups.

A further airstrike was launched in northern Marib, where it was believed that Houthi militants were stationed. US forces also targeted Houthi weapon storage facilities, tunnels, and military barracks, including those located at the Jarban camp in Sana'a and in the Bani Hashish area, situated to the east of the Yemeni capital.

The operation comes amid escalating tensions in Yemen, where the conflict between Houthi rebels and forces loyal to the Yemeni government, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, has led to significant civilian casualties and a prolonged humanitarian crisis.

For several weeks, US airstrikes have relentlessly targeted Houthi positions in Yemen, focusing on oil refineries, airports, and missile sites. President Trump has pledged to employ "overwhelming force" until the US achieves its goal of halting the Houthis' attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.

The Houthis launched their campaign in October 2023, expressing solidarity with Palestinians as Israel entered into conflict with Gaza. Since then, the group has carried out over 100 attacks, sinking two vessels. As a result, 70 per cent of merchant shipping that once passed through the Red Sea has been rerouted around the southern tip of Africa.

The US administration claims that the campaign is yielding results. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz confirmed that several senior Houthi leaders have been killed in the strikes.
