US magazine: AbramsX tank to feature Switchblade 300 kamikaze drones revolutionising modern warfare
In a recent article, The National Interest unveils that the advanced AbramsX tank, currently under development by the US General Dynamics Land Systems, is set to feature the innovative Switchblade 300 kamikaze drones.
The new series of Abrams tanks will be equipped with four launchers designed to deploy Switchblade 300 munitions, which can be operated directly by the tank's crew. These drones, often referred to as "kamikaze" drones, are capable of loitering around a target area, awaiting a command to strike, providing a significant tactical advantage for the tank crew.
In addition to this new offensive capability, engineers working on the AbramsX have emphasised bolstering the tank's defence against aerial threats, particularly drones. The tank will be equipped with the Trophy active protection system (APS), a highly advanced defence technology designed to neutralise incoming threats such as kamikaze drones. The Trophy system employs a cluster of kinetic projectiles to destroy attacking munitions before they can reach their target.
The AbramsX prototype was first unveiled in 2022, and this next-generation tank is expected to feature a number of groundbreaking innovations, including an unmanned turret, an automatic loading system, and a hybrid engine. The AbramsX aims to enhance the capabilities of its predecessors by incorporating cutting-edge technology to improve mobility, firepower, and survivability on the battlefield. Notable features include an unmanned turret, advanced sensors, an automatic loading system, and a hybrid engine designed to boost efficiency and operational range.
