US man arrested for abducting teenage girl he met online

In the United States, a 51-year-old man, Justin Newman, has been arrested on suspicion of abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl he met through a dating app, People reports.

According to the publication, Newman met the teenager online and later arranged a taxi for her to a train station, from which she travelled by train. He was detained on April 27, when police found him together with the missing schoolgirl at his home. The girl had been reported missing since April 9 in another state.

The suspect has been formally charged. Authorities later reported two additional counts of sexual assault and two other sexual offences.

Newman is currently being held in custody without bail. The next court hearing is scheduled for May 14.
