US MQ-4C Triton drone resumes patrols over Persian Gulf
An American reconnaissance drone, the Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton, has resumed flights over the Persian Gulf near Iranian airspace.
The drone departed from one of the US bases in the region and, after passing through the airspace of several countries, entered the Persian Gulf area, where it continues its mission, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“The unmanned aircraft took off from one of the US bases in the Middle East and, after passing through the airspace of several countries, entered the waters of the Persian Gulf, where it continues its movement (...) The aircraft is currently operating at an altitude of around 14.6 km outside corridors established for civil aviation, which rarely uses such high flight levels,” the source told TASS.
The source also noted that in recent weeks MQ-4C Triton flights have mainly been conducted from Middle Eastern bases rather than from Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily.
The drones are capable of providing real-time intelligence, monitoring large areas of sea and land, and complementing the capabilities of anti-submarine aircraft such as the Boeing P-8 Poseidon.
