US Navy deploys two aircraft carriers near Iran Amid Middle East tensions
The US Navy has deployed two aircraft carrier strike groups off the coast of Iran in the Gulf of Oman, as regional tensions continue to escalate.
Satellite imagery provided by the US company Planet Labs confirms the presence of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, which joined the USS Abraham Lincoln in the area at the end of last week, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
The Pentagon has confirmed that this deployment is part of a broader strategy to support Israel amidst growing unrest in the Middle East.
US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin has ordered the sustained presence of these two carrier strike groups in the region to bolster support for Israel. Austin’s decision was communicated during a telephone conversation with Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on August 25.
