US offers $10 million reward for Iraqi militia leader
The US State Department has announced a $10 million reward for information leading to the capture of an Iraqi militia leader, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The reward targets Ahmad al-Hamidawi, the secretary-general of the Iran-backed militia Kataib Hezbollah.
In a post on X, the State Department’s Rewards for Justice program, which included a photo of al-Hamidawi, said the group is responsible for attacks on US diplomatic facilities in Iraq, kidnappings of US citizens, and the killing of innocent Iraqis.
Innocent civilians killed. U.S. citizens kidnapped. Facilities attacked. Up to $10 Million for info on Ahmad al-Hamidawi. Help us stop the violence. Help us stop al-Hamidawi. Send us your tip. pic.twitter.com/J9lEXmN9E4

Last month, Kataib Hezbollah allegedly abducted American journalist Shelly Kittleson in Baghdad but released her several days later on the condition that she leave the country. The group told AP that, in exchange, the Iraqi government would release several detained members of the militia.
Kataib Hezbollah is allied with Lebanon’s Hezbollah, but they are two entirely different groups with different leaders.
