US: One dead after small aircraft crashes near Arizona airport PHOTO

A pilot has died after a small aircraft crashed near Chandler Airport in the US state of Arizona, local fire officials have said.

Emergency crews responded after receiving a 911 call reporting a downed aircraft at about 7:50 p.m. local time on July 29, Caliber.Az reports, citing US media. 

The crash occurred near the intersection of McQueen and Queen Creek roads, according to local media.

Firefighters located the aircraft and confirmed that the sole occupant had died at the scene. The pilot has not yet been identified.

The Chandler Fire Department said it is working with airport officials, the Chandler Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate the cause of the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities yet to release further details.
