US, Poland discuss joint production of military equipment

The United States and Poland are discussing plans for joint production of military equipment in Poland, U.S. Ambassador to Warsaw Tom Rose said.

“We are working hard together with ‘Minister Rambo’,” Rose said, referring to Polish Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk, “to ensure the possibility of joint production of military equipment here in Poland,” Caliber.Az reports per Polish media. 

The ambassador was speaking at a press conference marking the signing of an agreement to establish a maintenance and service centre for AH-64 Apache attack helicopters in the Polish city of Łódź. His remarks were broadcast by Polish public broadcaster TVP Info.

The discussions come as Poland seeks to expand its domestic defence-industrial capacity and strengthen military cooperation with the United States.

In early July, Poland’s state-owned defence group Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), Military Aviation Works No. 2 in Bydgoszcz, and U.S. defence company Anduril Industries signed an agreement to establish production in Poland of the Barracuda-500, a lower-cost manoeuvring munition.

Poland has also proposed producing missiles for the U.S.-made Patriot air-defence system domestically, provided Washington agrees to transfer the necessary production license.
