US president’s immigration policies garner continued support, new poll finds
A new national survey reveals strong approval for federal immigration raids, with 57 per cent of US voters supporting the enforcement actions taken to apprehend and deport undocumented immigrants.
This approval is led by 38 per cent of respondents who strongly support the raids, while 39 per cent disapprove, including 24 per cent who strongly oppose them, Caliber.Az reports.
The poll, conducted by Rasmussen Reports between January 26-28, 2025, surveyed 1,229 likely US voters and carries a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
The findings underscore continued backing for President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, which have been central to his administration’s agenda since taking office. Notably, the survey shows a clear partisan divide, with a substantial majority of Republican voters favoring the raids, while Democratic voters are more likely to disapprove.
In Texas, where immigration has long been a contentious issue, a separate survey from the University of Houston sheds light on local sentiments. Conducted by the Hobby School of Public Affairs, the survey asked 1,200 Texans from various political and ethnic backgrounds about their views on immigration and border security.
The results show that 64 per cent of Texans believe there should be a pathway for undocumented immigrants to stay in the US legally if they meet certain conditions. However, there is strong opposition to allowing those with felony convictions to remain in the country, with 82 per cent of supporters of a pathway for undocumented immigrants agreeing that individuals with felony records should not be allowed to stay.
The survey also reveals overwhelming support for increased targeted deportations of undocumented immigrants with criminal convictions, with 87 per cent of Texans in favor. This includes nearly unanimous backing from Republicans (95%) and significant support from Democrats (81%).
