Media: US reconnaissance drone spotted again near Iranian waters
A US reconnaissance drone, the Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton, has been spotted again over the Persian Gulf, operating close to Iranian territorial waters, a source familiar with the matter said.
The source said the drone departed from a military base in Italy and has been patrolling neutral waters at an altitude of over 14 kilometres for several hours. Its flight path passes near the city of Bushehr, which hosts a nuclear power plant, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
MQ-4C Triton flights in the region are regularly recorded and can last between 10 and 15 hours. The drone was previously observed in the same area just a few days ago.
The Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton is built for real-time intelligence collection, wide-area maritime and terrestrial surveillance, and can augment the capabilities of anti-submarine aircraft like the Boeing P-8 Poseidon.
