US rejects reports of nuclear test preparations at Nevada test site
The United States is not preparing underground nuclear tests at the test site in the state of Nevada, the head of the National Nuclear Security Administration at the US Department of Energy, Jill Hruby.
Her statement was posted on the website of the Arms Control Association.
She emphasized that the US has nothing to hide, and called to speak more clearly about what is happening in Nevada.
At the same time, Hruby noted that the increased attention to the activity at the test site is justified, as the Americans use it for various types of tests, including subcritical experiments (without causing a nuclear chain reaction), as well as improve the test site by conducting mining operations and improving infrastructure.
According to the expert, the experiments in Nevada are being conducted, among other things, to improve the US ability to detect nuclear weapons tests in other parts of the world. For this purpose, experiments with chemical, non-nuclear explosions are being conducted, Hruby specified.
