US representative walks out during Iranian president’s UN address

The sole US delegate in the room walked out of the UN General Assembly shortly after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian began his address, CNN reports.

Pezeshkian opened his speech by responding to remarks made by US President Donald Trump during his UNGA address the previous day, rejecting Washington’s characterization of Iran as a terrorist state.

“The United States president described us as terrorists. We have been the victims of terrorism,” Pezeshkian said.

He referred to the killing of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as a school bombing on the opening day of the US-Israeli war with Iran that reportedly killed 156 people. He also cited an attack on a sports hall carried out on the same day.

“The United States, by using weapons with multiple warheads, targeted that sports hall. They martyred, assassinated our scientists, our men, women, and children. Innocent children whom, in truth, had committed no crimes, no sins,” Pezeshkian said.

As the Iranian president made the remarks, the US delegate stood up and left the chamber.
