US sets record oil exports in April, up 38% compared to March

13 May 2026 20:37

The United States imported the lowest volume of crude oil in five months in April, while exports reached record levels, OPEC’s monthly report confirmed.

US crude oil imports stood at 5.8 million barrels per day (bpd), down 12% from the previous month, driven by reduced supplies from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Mexico, and Colombia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

At the same time, crude oil exports reached 5.3 million bpd, up 38% compared to March and April 2025.

The increase was mainly driven by shipments to Japan, South Korea, and Italy.

As a result, US net crude oil imports in April fell to just 464,000 bpd, compared with 2.7 million bpd in March and 2.2 million bpd a year earlier.

Imports of petroleum products declined slightly, by less than 1% month-on-month, to 1.7 million bpd.

However, exports of petroleum products hit a record 7.7 million bpd, up 5% from March and 20% year-on-year.

This resulted in net exports of petroleum products reaching 6.1 million bpd, compared with 5.7 million bpd in March and 4.8 million bpd in April 2025.

Separately, preliminary data showed that OECD European countries reduced crude oil imports in March compared with February due to lower US supplies, which were partially replaced by shipments from Canada and Mexico.

Imports of petroleum products also declined, with decreases in jet fuel and LPG outweighing higher diesel deliveries, while exports rose due to increased gasoline shipments despite lower naphtha exports.
