US skeptical of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards voluntarily yielding
US officials consider it unlikely that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will surrender voluntarily, even under pressure from US and Israeli military strikes, three American officials familiar with intelligence told Reuters.
Sources indicate that a rapid regime change in Tehran is viewed sceptically by some members of the US administration, despite increasing pressure on Iran’s elite.
The IRGC remains a central pillar of Iran’s political and military system, maintaining a broad network of loyalty within the country’s security forces, making an immediate government collapse unlikely.
Nevertheless, no officials speaking to the outlet entirely dismissed the possibility of Iran's government collapsing, which is currently facing significant personnel losses from ongoing US and Israeli air strikes and has become deeply unpopular after January's exceptionally violent crackdown.
