US spent more than $85 billion in Iran war, tracker says
The United States spent more than $85 billion during the 79-day conflict with Iran, according to estimates published by the Iran War Cost Tracker website.
The platform’s creators said their calculations include the costs of maintaining military personnel and naval assets deployed to the region, along with a range of other operational and defence-related expenses.
The estimate is significantly higher than the $29 billion figure previously cited by Jules Hurst, the acting head of Pentagon financial services.
Hurst did not explain how the Pentagon arrived at its estimate or indicate how much additional spending could be required. However, he was seeking congressional approval for a proposed $1.5 trillion US defence budget for 2027.
