US State Department urges citizens to leave Iran immediately
The US Department of State has issued an emergency advisory for American citizens in Iran, urging them to leave the country immediately, according to a statement posted on the department’s official X account.
“As of April 21, Iran’s airspace has partially reopened. U.S. citizens should leave Iran now, monitor local media for updates, and consult with commercial carriers for additional information on flights out of Iran,” the statement said.

The department added that Americans seeking to leave Iran may also exit via land routes through Armenia, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Turkmenistan.
It further warned citizens not to travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, or the border regions between Pakistan and Iran. The advisory also noted that Iranian authorities may prevent US citizens from leaving or impose an “exit fee.”
Individuals with dual US-Iranian citizenship were instructed to depart Iran using Iranian passports.
