US state secretary discusses Iran with European counterparts
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, during which the parties discussed the situation surrounding Iran, Deputy Spokesperson of the State Department Tommy Pigott has said.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy attended the conversation, Caliber.Az reports, citing the US State Department website.
“All reiterated their commitment to ensuring that Iran never develops or obtains a nuclear weapon,” Rubio said.
The call was part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to address concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, particularly in light of escalating regional tensions and violations of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The call occurred amid heightened tensions due to the Israel-Iran conflict, which intensified after Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, following the start of an air war on June 13. These strikes, which killed 639 people according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, were aimed at thwarting Iran’s nuclear progress. Iran retaliated, escalating the conflict.
