US state secretary to meet Russian foreign minister in Malaysia
On July 10 evening, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Malaysia, where both officials will be attending ASEAN-related events.
According to Rubio’s official schedule posted on the U.S. State Department website, the meeting is set for 6:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. Baku time) in Kuala Lumpur, per Caliber.Az.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told Interfax that the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio on July 10 during the ASEAN events in Malaysia is being arranged.
“I confirm. Such a meeting is being worked out,” Zakharova said in response to a related inquiry.
ASEAN stands for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It’s a regional intergovernmental organization made up of 10 Southeast Asian countries that promotes political and economic cooperation and regional stability.
ASEAN events typically refer to official meetings, summits, and forums organized by or under the umbrella of ASEAN. These gatherings bring together leaders, ministers, and officials from member countries — and often invite dialogue partners like the U.S., Russia, China, and others — to discuss regional issues, cooperation, security, trade, and diplomacy.
