US state secretary, Trump's envoy to visit Paris for talks on Ukraine, Iran, and tariffs
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steven Witkoff, are expected to visit Paris this week to discuss the conflict in Ukraine, engagement with Iran, and tariffs imposed by President Trump.
Witkoff is expected to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, while Rubio will hold talks with the country’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
In addition to Ukraine, Iran, and tariffs, the agenda will also include the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Israel is conducting a military operation.
The exact dates of the meetings have not been disclosed.
Macron’s talks with Witkoff will take place just days after the special envoy’s visit to St. Petersburg, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Under Macron’s leadership, France plays a leading role in Europe in shaping potential Western security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a resolution to the conflict.
