US supports sovereignty of both Azerbaijan, Armenia
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has welcomed the direct dialogue (without intermediaries) between Baku and Yerevan.
"Direct dialogue is the best way to a truly lasting peace, and we are very happy to support it", Caliber.Az reports, citing Blinken’s statement.
According to the statement, the US supports the sovereignty and territorial independence of both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"The restoration of independence in 1991 was a vital moment in securing the rights of both countries, rights that we support", Blinken said.
"The conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh which lasted for more than 30 years has resulted in huge human loses, destruction - lost lives, deep scars, he added.
The secretary concluded by saying, "however, what we are seeing now are real and bold moves by both countries to put the past behind and work towards a lasting peace".
