US takes every step to protect civilians in Iran, says defence chief
US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth has stated that no nation takes more precautions than the United States to ensure that civilians are never targeted.
He made the remarks in response to a question about what measures the Pentagon is taking to minimise civilian casualties in Iran, Caliber.Az reports per British media.
“Where things happen that need to be investigated, we will investigate,” he added. “Open-source is not the way to determine what did or did not happen.”
Hegseth described Iran as a regime that targeted civilians and said it had relocated military infrastructure into civilian areas.
When asked about the Iranian government’s claim that it is prepared for a “long war” and the US capacity to protect its personnel, Hegseth stressed that the US was providing every possible resource to its troops on the frontline to ensure they are “properly defended.”
