US to allocate $9.5 billion for deomocracy support globally by 2024
US President Biden has called the struggle to bolster democratic governance at home and abroad the defining challenge of our time, the Department of State said in a statement on March 29.
"That is because democracy—a transparent and accountable government of, for, and by the people—remains the best way to realize lasting peace, prosperity, and human dignity," reads the statement.
Internationally, the United States continues to strengthen democratic resilience and respect for human rights through both new and existing initiatives.
In Fiscal Years 2022, 2023, and 2024, the United States has invested and aims to provide approximately $9.5 billion, working with Congress and subject to the availability of appropriations, to support democracy, human rights, and good governance globally.
