US to announce steps to strengthen European security at NATO summit
Coordinator for strategic communications of the US National Security Council John Kirby has said that the US will announce steps to strengthen European security at the NATO summit in Madrid, Spain next week.
"The US will announce steps to strengthen European security along with expected new contributions from allies," Ukraine’s European Pravda quotes Kirby as saying.
The coordinator added that leaders of NATO member states will announce new commitments to strengthen NATO's defence and deterrence in Madrid next week.
He added that for the first time the leaders of the countries of the Indo-Pacific region, namely, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea, will take part in the summit.
“This makes it clear that "whether in Europe or in the Indo-Pacific region, the US and our allies and partners will defend the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity," Kirby said.
The US announced a new tranche of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $450 million on June 23, 2022.
