US top diplomat offers condolences, thanks Kuwait for standing firm against Iran
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke by phone with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to discuss regional security developments and ongoing tensions involving Iran, a statement from the US State Department notes.
The statement said Rubio began the call by offering condolences following the deaths of two members of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces and others who were killed or injured.
“Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Secretary Rubio conveyed his condolences for the loss of two members of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces and others who have been killed and injured,” the statement said.
Rubio also thanked Kuwait for what the State Department described as its firm stance in response to security threats linked to Tehran.
“The Secretary expressed gratitude to the Foreign Minister for Kuwait’s steadfast response to attacks and threats from the Iranian regime,” the statement added.
During the conversation, the two officials reviewed ongoing efforts by the United States to address regional security challenges.
“They also discussed ongoing US operations to counter those threats, as well as other developments in the region,” the statement said.
