US urges its citizens to leave Iran immediately via Azerbaijan
The US State Department has called on American citizens who are currently in Iran to leave the country through Azerbaijan.
“U.S. citizens should not travel to Iran for any reason and should depart Iran immediately if they are there,” the State Department said in a press statement, per Caliber.Az.
The Department warned that American citizens in Iran face serious, increasing dangers due to rising tensions between Iran and Israel.
“The U.S. government does not have diplomatic or consular relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Swiss government, acting through its Embassy in Tehran, serves as the protecting power for United States interests in Iran,” the statement reads.
The State Department announced that citizens can leave Iran by land through the borders with Armenia, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan.
“The U.S. government cannot guarantee your safety if you choose to depart using these options. You should leave only if you believe it is safe to do so,” the statement added.
