US urges Türkiye to support peace efforts in Ukraine and South Caucasus
The United States has requested Türkiye’s support in advancing peace efforts in Ukraine and the South Caucasus, according to a statement from US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
During a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio underscored Washington’s desire for Ankara to play a constructive role in regional stability. The two officials also discussed security cooperation, counterterrorism efforts, and economic ties between their countries, Caliber.Az reports.
"Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today to discuss cooperation on key issues in security and trade. The Secretary requested Türkiye’s support for peace in Ukraine and the South Caucasus," the statement read.
Rubio also commended Türkiye’s leadership in the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and stressed the importance of continued coordination in Syria. He reiterated the need for a stable and unified Syria that does not serve as a hub for international terrorism or a conduit for destabilizing Iranian activities.
The discussion also touched on economic relations, with the Secretary acknowledging recent progress in bilateral trade and calling for further expansion of economic partnerships. Additionally, Rubio raised concerns regarding recent arrests and protests in Türkiye.
