US vice president’s campaign raises $200 million
US Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has raised an impressive $200 million since she became the presumed Democratic presidential nominee last week, positioning her strongly in the race against Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump.
The campaign revealed this significant fundraising total on July 28, noting that 66 per cent of the contributions came from first-time donors in the 2024 election cycle, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
This surge in support followed President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race and his endorsement of Harris.
More than 170,000 volunteers have signed up to support Kamala Harris' campaign, assisting with phone banking, canvassing, and other get-out-the-vote initiatives as Election Day approaches in just 100 days.
On July 27, Harris held a campaign event in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, which attracted hundreds to a fundraiser initially organized when President Joe Biden was still the leading Democratic candidate. Originally expected to raise $400,000, the event ended up generating approximately $1.4 million, according to the campaign.
