US VP says Iran deal to include Israel, Gulf states
A prospective agreement aimed at resolving tensions between the United States and Iran will extend beyond the two countries and include Israel, Lebanon, and Gulf Arab states, according to U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
“It is a regional peace deal. It's going to include the Gulf, it's going to include Israel, it's going to include Lebanon. The idea is this is a true regional peace deal,” he said in an interview with U.S. journalist Megyn Kelly.
Earlier, officials from the United States, Iran, and Pakistan—which has acted as an intermediary—confirmed that Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement expected to be formally signed in Geneva on June 19.
Iran has warned the United States and Israel that further strikes in Lebanon would constitute a violation of the emerging agreement, a point of contention in the negotiations. Israel, meanwhile, has stated it intends to maintain its presence in southern Lebanon and reserves the right to self-defence.
