US withdraws B-52 bombers from UK base after Iran op

The United States Air Force has withdrawn all of its B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers from RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom, according to The War Zone.

The outlet reported that the final six aircraft departed the base in two waves of three and returned to their permanent stations in the United States.

At the peak of the recent US military operation against Iran, RAF Fairford hosted 15 B-1B Lancer bombers and eight B-52H Stratofortress aircraft. These platforms were used to carry out strikes on key Iranian targets, including fortified facilities linked to the storage and production of ballistic missiles and drones.

A contingent of US B-1B Lancer strategic bombers remains stationed at the UK base.

At the same time, 15 US F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets have returned to RAF Lakenheath after a five-month deployment in Jordan.
