USA announces new $800 million military package for Ukraine Includes cluster munitions

The United States on Friday announced a new $800 million military aid package to Ukraine that also includes the so-called advanced dual-purpose conventional munitions (DPICM), or cluster munitions.

The aid package, which will be provided from US Army stockpiles, includes 155-mm ammunition, including DPICM, and 105-mm rounds, as well as ammunition for Patriot and HIMARS systems, US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl told a briefing, European Pravda reports.

In addition, the United States will provide Ukraine with additional armored vehicles - Bradley and Stryker, precision-guided aircraft projectiles, as well as spare parts for repairs and equipment, Kahl added.

The new package, explained the US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, will allow Ukraine to provide "hundreds of thousands of ammunition immediately".

Kahl announced that with the new military support package, the total amount of military aid from the United States to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion exceeded $41.3 billion.

The White House has previously explained that the provision of cluster munitions is a temporary measure until the capacities for the production of conventional artillery munitions are deployed. In addition, Ukraine has pledged to minimize the risk of using cluster munitions.
