Using mobile devices on board planes to be available in EU countries soon
05 December 2022 07:01
Airline passengers in the European Union will soon be able to use their phones without restrictions on connectivity while in the skies.
As the BBC reported, the European Commission ruled airlines can provide 5G technology on board planes, alongside slower mobile data.
Although the specifics of how this will be implemented are not defined yet, it could mean that passengers will no longer be required to put their phones on airplane mode.
The deadline for EU states to make the 5G frequency bands available for planes is 30 June 2023.
Thierry Breton, EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, said the "sky is no longer a limit when it comes to possibilities offered by super-fast, high-capacity connectivity".
