Uzbekistan, Afghanistan target $500 million in pharmaceutical trade

06 April 2026 17:12

Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have agreed to significantly expand bilateral cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, setting a target of increasing trade to $500 million during talks in Kabul between Uzbek pharmaceutical industry chief Abdulla Azizov and Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nuriddin Azizi.

During an official visit to Kabul, Azizov and Azizi discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, Caliber.Az reports via the Uzbek ministry

The sides highlighted the quality and competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical products and set a target of increasing bilateral trade in the sector to $500 million.

To achieve this goal, the officials underscored the need to establish a joint operational working group tasked with coordinating trade and regulatory issues. They also proposed developing cooperation in Afghanistan in line with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards and building direct partnerships with major pharmaceutical distributors.

Both parties stressed the importance of forming a technical working group, enhancing information exchange, and signing bilateral cooperation agreements in the near future to support sustainable growth in pharmaceutical trade between the two countries.
