Uzbekistan approves construction of small nuclear power unit
Uzbekistan’s Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety has issued a license for the construction of a small power unit using the RITM-200N reactor as part of a nuclear power plant project, according to Uzbek media reports cited by Caliber.Az.
The committee said it will oversee compliance with the terms of the license during the implementation of the project, including adherence to construction safety requirements and the protection of the population and the environment.
“Documents, design solutions and safety justification materials for the nuclear power plant units with the RITM-200N nuclear installation were reviewed, taking into account legislation, international experience and IAEA recommendations. Foreign experts were involved in the review of the projects, in particular, leading specialists from Russia’s Scientific and Technical Centre for Radiation and Nuclear Safety,” the committee said in a statement published on its Telegram channel.
