Uzbekistan builds $20 million plant for small hydropower equipment PHOTO

A plant for manufacturing equipment for small hydropower plants has been built in Uzbekistan’s Andijan Region as part of a $20 million investment project.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the facility, according to Uzbek media reports cited by Caliber.Az. Uzbekistan has been placing greater emphasis on small and micro-hydropower as part of efforts to expand renewable energy and make more efficient use of its water resources.

The enterprise is scheduled to reach full production capacity in 2027. Once fully operational, it is expected to produce 100 small hydropower complexes annually, with a combined value of 70 billion soums, as well as equipment for micro-hydropower plants and other products.

The company also plans to export its output to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, with annual exports expected to reach $3 million.

Uzbekistan has been expanding its small and micro-hydropower sector, including plans to develop thousands of such facilities with private-sector participation.
