Uzbekistan deploys Bayraktar drones for border patrol

A newly formed special unit equipped with Bayraktar operational-tactical unmanned aerial vehicles has begun active patrol duty along Uzbekistan’s state border, as per Uzbek media.

At present, 42 per cent of the country’s border areas are covered by video-surveillance systems, and more than one thousand kilometres of fibre-optic communication lines have been installed to support monitoring and communication needs.

The authorities state that the Border Troops are now fully supplied with weapons and ammunition. Fleet readiness has also significantly improved: vehicle availability has reached 98 per cent, watercraft are equipped at 88 per cent, and electro-optical systems are installed at 78 per cent of required levels. The statement adds that units are additionally equipped with modern unmanned aerial platforms, including the newly deployed Bayraktar drones.

Bayraktar drones, produced by the Turkish company Baykar, are a family of medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles widely used for reconnaissance and precision-strike missions.

The most recognised model, the Bayraktar TB2, has been exported to numerous countries and has become known for its relatively low operational cost, high reliability, and proven effectiveness in modern conflicts.

The drone is equipped with advanced optics, laser-guided munitions, and real-time surveillance capabilities, making it a versatile platform for border security, counterterrorism, and battlefield operations. Its operational success has contributed to a growing international demand for Turkish UAV systems.
