18 March 2026 18:19

Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremony that saw the launch of major projects, marking the start of construction for new initiatives in the region.

Leaders of both newly operational and under-construction projects joined the event via video link, according to Caliber.Az, citing Uzbek media reports.

The projects cover a wide range of sectors, including mining and geology, building materials, automotive, chemical and electrical industries, agriculture, education, healthcare, services, and tourism. During the ceremony, Mirziyoyev engaged with project implementers and representatives of local and international companies, hearing their proposals and ideas for further development.

The event was part of a wider visit of the leader to the country's Samarkand Region. By pressing a symbolic button, the president officially launched the operation of several major projects and the construction of new ones in the region. Among them, 53 projects worth $2.4 billion were inaugurated in partnership with Austria, China, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, India, and Russia.

Construction also began on another 53 projects totalling $4.6 billion, in collaboration with the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, China, the UAE, Türkiye, Russia, and Iran.

According to the presidential press service, the implementation of these projects is expected to create 18,000 new jobs, produce industrial output worth 13 trillion Uzbekistani soums (approx. $1 billion) and generate $700 million in export potential. The initiatives aim to diversify the region’s industrial base, strengthen modern production chains, and expand the geographic reach of exports.

Local media outlets have pointed out that this comprehensive push demonstrates Uzbekistan’s ongoing commitment to economic development and international cooperation in the Samarkand Region.
