Uzbekistan launches evacuation of citizens from Iran via Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched an operation to assist citizens returning home from Iran through Turkmenistan, as regional security tensions continue.
The Uzbek embassy in Ashgabat has intensified coordination with Turkmen authorities and diplomatic colleagues in Tehran to facilitate the transit process. The key assembly point for evacuees has been designated as the city of Serakhs, located on the Turkmen-Iranian border, where embassy staff will meet Uzbek nationals, Caliber.Az reports per Uzbek media.
Official embassy vehicles have been mobilised to transport and escort citizens, while diplomats are working to ensure that border crossings are carried out as quickly and safely as possible.
Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov to ensure the return of Uzbek citizens currently in the Gulf states, according to the prime minister’s press secretary, Bekzod Khidiyatov.
